ALWAGHT- Documents show the US is investing over $1.5 billion in military construction projects in Israel, fully funded by American aid.
Newly released documents from the US Army Corps of Engineers reveal a large-scale American-funded military construction program in Israel, valued at over $1.5 billion. The initiative includes building airbase infrastructure, ammunition depots, command centers, and a new headquarters for the Shayetet 13 naval unit. These efforts are funded through the $3.8 billion annual aid package agreed upon in 2016, with projects also supporting Israel’s new CH-53K helicopters and KC-46 refueling aircraft. Though tenders go to American firms, much of the construction is carried out by Israeli contractors.
Despite Washington's claim that this aid serves mutual defense, the scale of investment suggests deep, long-term US military involvement. The surge in spending comes amid growing domestic pressure in the US to end arms transfers to Israel over its war on Gaza, which has killed over 57,000 Palestinians. Many of the 20-plus projects, totaling over $250 million with future expansions exceeding $1 billion, are reportedly masked to conceal their exact locations.
The construction push also coincides with heightened regional tensions. In June, Israel launched an unauthorized strike on Iran, leading to a swift and forceful Iranian response, including missile and drone strikes on Israeli military sites. Satellite imagery and Israeli officials have since confirmed the hits, marking a new phase of direct conflict. Israel's damaged infrastructure and mounting pressure led it to accept a US-brokered ceasefire on June 24.
