ALWAGHT- Israeli strikes in Gaza have left at least 24 Palestinians dead, with rescue teams retrieving burned remains from a school being used as a displacement shelter.
At least 24 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza on Wednesday, with 20 fatalities concentrated in the north. Among the dead were 11 victims—including women and children—who perished in a strike on the Yafa School in Gaza City, where flames engulfed the shelter and emergency workers recovered a child’s charred remains. Rescue teams reported numerous injuries and appealed for international aid, as social media footage showed the school’s tents and structures consumed by fire.
The civil defense warned of people trapped under rubble after bombings leveled homes in Gaza City, but rescue efforts were hindered by Israeli military restrictions on access. Additional strikes killed a child in Jabalia, one person in Khan Yunis, and four others in eastern Gaza City, with many still buried under debris. Authorities stressed their inability to conduct effective rescues due to a lack of equipment, describing desperate distress calls from across the besieged enclave.
The attacks follow a surge in violence that has killed 1,600 Palestinians since March 18, shattering ceasefire talks. Hamas insists any future deal must include a permanent truce, full Israeli withdrawal, and a prisoner exchange. The broader offensive, ongoing since October 2023, has claimed over 51,000 lives—mostly women and children—and left 117,000 wounded, compounding Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe.
