ALWAGHT- The US and Israel have dismissed a long-anticipated Arab proposal for rebuilding Gaza, which would permit its two million residents to remain in their homeland.
Arab leaders convened an emergency summit in Cairo, where they adopted a unified plan for Gaza's reconstruction, allowing its Palestinian residents to remain in their homeland. This proposal directly opposes former President Donald Trump's plan, which sought US control over Gaza and the displacement of its population. The Arab League criticized Trump’s vision as violating international law and human rights.
The US and Israel rejected the Arab plan, arguing it did not reflect Gaza’s current conditions. A White House spokesman insisted Gaza was uninhabitable and that Trump's plan aimed to rebuild it without Hamas. Israel’s foreign ministry supported the US proposal, claiming it offered Gazans a “free choice,” while accusing Arab states of dismissing the idea without consideration.
Trump’s plan, announced in February, proposed turning Gaza into a US-controlled “Riviera” and resettling displaced Palestinians in Egypt, Jordan, and other countries. He asserted they would receive “better housing” but denied them the right of return. The Arab League condemned the proposal as an attempt to forcibly remove Palestinians from their land under the guise of redevelopment.
