ALWAGHT- According to a Hamas media official, Israel is set to release 200 Palestinians in exchange for four female Israeli soldiers.
On Tuesday, Nader Fakhouri, a Hamas official, announced the next steps in the prisoner exchange agreement between Palestinian resistance factions and Israel. He stated that the second phase of the deal would begin on January 25, with the exchange scheduled for January 26. During this phase, four Israeli women will be released in return for a group of Palestinian prisoners. The lists of prisoners to be exchanged will be shared between both sides before the implementation.
The prisoner swap comes as part of a ceasefire deal that took effect on January 19. In the first phase, Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners from Ofer Prison in the West Bank. Hamas reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire, while Taher al-Nunu, another Hamas official, confirmed the specifics of the upcoming exchange. The deal reflects ongoing efforts to stabilize the situation and address the humanitarian aspects of the conflict.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, who previously took credit for mediating the ceasefire, expressed skepticism about its longevity, calling it "not our war." Qatar, a key mediator in the agreement, has called on the UN to adopt a resolution ensuring the ceasefire’s success and opposing actions that undermine a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, including territorial annexation and violations of religious sanctities.
