Alwaght- A year has gone since the Israeli-Hezbollah war started on the border. The war started with Israeli aggression on Gaza and persistence of the Israeli crimes in the coastal Palestinian enclave brought war to southern Lebanon. During over a year of war, Hezbollah has well resisted the Israeli aggression and in several cases even dealt fatal blows to Israeli forces. This report has a statistical view on a year of conflict on the border.
Thousand of martyrs and the injured
Lebanon's health ministry has provided statistics on the number of those killed and injured by Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
At least 2,257 people: Lebanese martyrs of Israeli aggression
More than 10,000 people: The number of those wounded in Israeli attacks
More than 1.2 million people: Displaced by Israeli aggression
A year of illegal aggression
According to the statistics provided by Aljazeera, the number of attacks by the Israeli regime against Lebanon includes at least 9,891 attacks.
More than 120,000 attacks: According to ACLED data, at least 12,074 attacks between Israel and Hezbollah and other armed groups were recorded in Lebanon from October 7, 2023 to October 15, 2024.
More than 2,100 attacks: The number of recorded attacks by Hezbollah and other Lebanese armed groups against Israelis
43 dead: The number of Israeli casualties in Hezbollah attacks
Other groups active in the battle against Israel in Lebanon and Palestine: Lebanon's Al-Fajr forces, the Amal Movement, the Qassam Brigades of Hamas and the Quds Brigades of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Areas in Lebanon targeted the most by Israel
Ayta Ash Shab: This is a residential area in Bent Jbail city and was targeted 423 times by Israeli airstrikes.
Kfarkela: The village is part of Marjayoun city in Nabatiya. It is 96 kilometers from southern Lebanon. It was attacked 327 times.
Naqoura: A small city in southern Lebanon. Since March 23, 1987, the UN peacekeepers, or UNIFIL mission, have been deployed to Naqoura. It was attacked 321 times.
Houla: It is a residential area in Marjayoun, attacked 303 times.
Israeli regions damaged by Hezbollah's attacks
Qiryat Shemona: It is a city in northern Israel bordering Lebanon. It was attacked 177 times by Hezbollah.
Metula: This is the name of a city in the north and the northernmost city when it comes to closeness to Lebanon. It was attacked 116 times.
Margaliot: It is also in the north, attacked 104 times.
Other attacked towns include Manara (95 times) and Shetola (84 times).
Israel's inefficient air defenses
Hezbollah missiles and drones' penetration into Israel comes as Israeli uses several layers of air defenses. Here are the air defenses:
Irone Dome (short-range)
David's Sling (mid-range)
Arrow 1,2, and 3 (long-range)
The ineffectiveness of these expensive defense systems against Hezbollah's missiles and suicide drones led Tel Aviv to ask the US for the THAAD missile system to strengthen its defense shield.
Hezbollah's arsenal
According to a report published by the Center for Strategic and International Studies in the US, Hezbollah is considered one of the most armed non-state actors in the world with its extensive missile arsenal.
130,000 rockets and missiles: The estimate of the CSIS of Hezbollah's missile number
On October 19, 2023, Israel's National Security Research Institute provided a more detailed estimate of Lebanon's Hezbollah missile arsenal:
40,000 Grad missiles with a short range of 15-20 km
80,000 longer-range missiles, including Fajr 3 and Fajr 5 ballistic missiles, with a range of 100 km
30,000 Zelzal or Fateh-110 missiles with a range of 200 to 300 km as the longest-range weapons in the possession of Hezbollah, which is capable of reaching the southernmost and farthest Israeli targets.
Dynamism of Hezbollah's missile power
In recent years, Hezbollah worked on mobility of its rockets (for example installing 8 Grad rockets on Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series and intensively used it during 33-day war on 2006) in a bid to neutralize the Israeli push to quell its missile capability. Hezbollah has also used multi-tube launchers that help it outnumber Israeli air defense missiles. This experience seems to show Hezbollah's missile penetration successful.
