Alwaght- Bahrain regime forces fired tear gas peaceful demonstrator protesting the execution by Saudi Arabia on Saturday of prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Nimr Baqir Al Nimr.
Demonstrators carrying pictures of Sheikh Nimr were attacked by security forces in a standoff in the Abu-Saiba area, west of the capital Manama.
Activists have called for protests in the tiny Persian Gulf kingodom, a sign that Nimr's murder may inflame already raging tensions in the Middle East.
According to local media outlets, several people, among them minors who took part in protests, were arrested by the regime forces
Meanwhile, a Bahrain interior ministry official has confirmed that a number of activists who took to social media to condemn the execution of Sheikh Nimr by Saudi monarchy have been detained by the Manama regime forces.
During another protest on Saturday violent clashes erupted between demonstrator and Bahraini regime forces in Sitra, located about 12 kilometers (seven miles) southeast of Manama. Fierce clashes were also reported across several villages in and around Manama.
Meanwhile in Iraq on Sunday, prominent Islamic scholar and politician Muqtada al-Sadr led protestors in front of the Saudi Arabian embassy in Baghdad to condemn the execution of Sheikh Nimr. Similar protests were held in several countries including Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan and outside Saudi embassies in a number of European capitals.
