Alwaght- Iraqis have held nationwide rallies to condemn recent US-led airstrikes against neighboring Syria.
The demonstrations took place in Baghdad, Basra and Najaf. Protesters raised Iraqi and Syrian flag in solidarity with Syrian people. They also chanted against the US and its allies while burning US and Israeli regime flags.
Hundreds gathered in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square with Syrian and Iraqi flags, to demonstrate their support to the Syrian people.
On Saturday, Iraqi Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called for a mass rally against the strikes on Syria, stressing that only the Iraqi and Syrian flags should be raised in the protest.
Anti-war protesters marched in the US, India, Mexico, Chile, Turkey, Cyprus, Britain and other countries to condemn the US-led attack on Syria.
On the same day, each of US, France and Britain launched illegal airstrikes against several regions in Syria.
The three attacking countries claimed the Syrian government of attacking the Douma suburb of Damascus with chemical agents, earlier this month. The Syrian government has rejected the accusations.
Iraq's foreign ministry warned that the strikes against Syria marked "a very dangerous development."
"Such action could have dangerous consequences, threatening the security and stability of the region and giving terrorism another opportunity to expand after it was ousted from Iraq and forced into Syria to retreat to a large extent," the ministry said in a statement.
