Alwaght-Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has congratulated the country's armed forces for liberating al-Qaim town from ISIS terrorist group.
Abadi issued a congratulatory statement on Friday, hailing the "liberation of al-Qaim in record time".
Announcing the offensive last week, Abadi said “ISIS members have to choose between death and surrender.”
Earlier Friday, Iraqi security forces, backed by Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), declared they had fully liberated al Qaim city in western Anbar from ISIS Takfiri terrorists.
Sources say Iraqi troops have raised the Iraqi flag over a number of government buildings in the center of al Qaim city.
The Takfiri terrorists swept through parts of northern and western Iraq in June 2014. They then began a reign of terror across the captured areas, committing crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and others.
The recapture of Qaim means that the ISIS terrorists in Iraq are now in control of just the smaller neighboring town of Rawa and surrounding pockets of barren desert along the Euphrates River.
The announcement of al-Qaim liberation came just as the Syrian Army has declared the entire Deir Ez-Zor city is fully liberated after the last positions of ISIS in it were eliminated.
Experts agree the territorial losses by ISIS in Iraq and Syria will mark the end of the Takfiri group's so called caliphate. However, ISIS is expected continue its insurgency and try to inspire attacks around the globe by its extremist followers.
