Alwaght- The US-led international coalition killed 78 civilians after carrying out airstrikes against residential neighborhoods in Raqqa city during the past 24 hours.
Syria’s SANA news agency reported on Tuesday that coalition warplanes fired rockets at al-Sakhani and al-Bado alleys and al-Tawasuaeh neighborhood in Raqqa city.
Local sources say that the airstrikes left 78 civilians dead and destroyed a number of residential buildings and infrastructure and causing material damage to the targeted areas.
Also on Tuesday, the coalition announced that at least 250 US-led air strikes have pounded the Syrian city of Raqa and surrounding territory in the past week.
Activists and monitoring groups have reported that intensifying coalition bombardment of the city has left scores of civilians dead.
“We have increased our strikes recently especially since the end of the Mosul battle,” Dillon said.
Earlier this month, the coalition acknowledged the deaths of 624 civilians in its strikes in Syria and Iraq since 2014, but rights groups say the number is much higher.
Last week, Syria once again urged the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities in keeping the international peace and security and halting the crimes of the international coalition led by the US against the innocent Syrian civilians.
In two letters to UN Secretary General and President of the Security council, the Syrian foreign ministry highlighted the continued brutal attacks of the “international coalition” against Syrian people, saying that the aircrafts of the US-led coalition attacked on 16 August the residential neighborhoods of Raqqa city, leaving 17 innocent civilians dead and many more injured, mostly children and women, and causing material damage to infrastructure and properties.
Syria protests that the US-led coalition bombing of residential neighborhoods by using missile arsenals, guided bombs and internationally- banned white phosphorus bombs has become a systematic and deliberate behavior of this coalition in extreme disregard of the international humanitarian law and human rights rules.
US-led forces are conducting airstrikes inside Syria to reportedly combat ISIS terrorists. The airstrikes are carried out without the permission of Damascus thus violating the country’s sovereignty.
The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, with the government of President Bashar al Assad blaming some Western states, especially the US and their regional allies, including Saudi Arabia, of backing Takfiri terrorists wreaking havoc in the country.
