Alwaght-Security personnel at three regional airports in Germany are set to stage a strike over their wages, in a move which is expected to create long delays for tens of thousands of passengers, as Press TV reports.
The one-day strike that is set to start on Monday in Hamburg, Stuttgart and Hanover airports, has been called by the Verdi trade union.
The Security personnel want wage increases of between 0.70 and 2.50 euros (0.80 and 2.80 dollars) per hour as most of them are paid between 8.50 and 9 euros per hour, the union said.
“Employers have it in their power to end this dispute. We are prepared to negotiate,” Verdi board member, Petra Gerstenkorn, said in a statement.
Warning of “significant delays” at security checkpoints, Hamburg Airport called on travelers to check with their airline beforehand to see their flight has not been canceled.
In late January, hundreds of flights were canceled as workers at two German airports walked off their jobs to join carmakers and suppliers in the one-day strike over higher wages.
A union representing them said as many as 70,000 people took part in the strikes on January 29. The walkout came after talks with their employers for wage hikes failed for the third time.
