Alwaght- All Turk MPs of German parliament receives death threats after Germany's national Parliament, Bundestag, approved a resolution to recognize Armenian genocide at the hands of the Ottoman Empire.
Turkish president addressed German MPs of Turkish origin and said their blood is tainted and should be tested in a lab for Turkishness then he continued his vocal criticism of last week’s German resolution in a speech at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, which was televised in Turkey on Sunday, according to RT.
“Their blood is impure and we know whose spokespeople they are,” Erdogan told a cheering audience. “They are the long arm of the separatist terrorists placed in Germany.”
On the sideline of the threats the co-chair of the Greens in Germany, Cem Özdemir, who played an active role in the approval of the bill has been given a personal police guard, his executive assistant said on Sunday.
“We are in close contact with the security units. We got used to insults and swearing. However we have never received the amount of death threats we received in the recent days,” Turkish based Hurriyet daily news quoted Marc Berthold as saying.
The number of guards assigned to protect Özdemir was not disclosed, as his family and house were also placed under protection.
Eleven MPs of Turkish origin voted for the resolution last week, sparking a barrage of accusations from Ankara. German Green Party leader Ozcan Mutlu is at the forefront of the verbal assault.
During 1915, between 800,000 and 1.5 million ethnic Armenians were killed by Ottoman forces. Turkey disputes the scale of the tragedy. It also insists that the deaths were not the result of an intentional government policy, saying that the Armenians sided with Russia against their own government during World War I.
