Death Toll from Morocco’s Earthquake Rises to 820

Alwaght- At least 820 people have been killed and 672 injured in Morocco after one of the most powerful earthquakes to ever strike the country on Friday night leaving a trail of destruction and sorrow in its wake.

The earthquake's impact has been felt across several provinces, with Al Haouz Province bearing the brunt of the disaster. The Ministry of the Interior has reported that 394 individuals tragically lost their lives in Al Haouz, followed by 271 in Taroudant, 91 in Chichaoua, 31 in Ouarzazate, 13 in Marrakech, 11 in Azilal, 5 in Agadir Ida Outanane, 3 in Greater Casablanca, and 1 death in the province of Youssoufia. These numbers are a grim testament to the extent of the devastation wrought by the earthquake.

During a press briefing, the Secretary-General at the Directorate General of Internal Affairs at the Ministry of the Interior expressed deep condolences to the families affected by this tragedy and provided an overview of the grim statistics. The secretary also noted the extensive efforts being undertaken by various agencies to manage the crisis and mitigate further damage.

The response to this disaster has been swift and coordinated. The Royal Armed Forces, local authorities, law enforcement agencies, and civil protection teams in the affected prefectures and provinces have joined forces to provide immediate assistance and assess the damage. 

Their collective efforts aim to ensure that those injured receive prompt medical attention, that essential supplies and resources are distributed efficiently, and that the affected communities receive the support they need in this difficult time.

As the nation comes to grips with the magnitude of this catastrophe, the Moroccan people have demonstrated resilience, solidarity, and a strong sense of community. Offers of assistance and support have poured in from across the country, and international aid organizations are standing ready to lend their expertise and resources to help the affected regions recover and rebuild.
