Saudi Arabia Slashes Political, Economic Ties with Canada over ’Interference’

Alwaght- Saudi Arabia appeared to threaten a 9/11-style attack on Canada after a verified Twitter account posted an image that showed a passenger plane flying towards the CN Tower in Toronto.

Saudi youth group, with over 350,000 followers, posted on Monday the inflammatory photo that was captioned: 'As the Arabic saying goes: 'He who interferes with what doesn't concern him finds what doesn't please him'. Another caption was placed over the tower reading: 'Sticking one's nose where it doesn't belong'.

The Saudi government-linked Twitter account deleted the post around six hours after it was posted. It seem that they have realized that reminding people that 15 of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi was not a great idea. Over 2,700 people were killed in those attacks.

The tweet might have been taken down by the account’s administrators or deleted by Twitter for violating its terms of use.

Relations between Saudi Arabia and Canada deteriorated after Ottawa criticized Riyadh’s detention of two women’s and human rights activists, and called for their immediate release.

Saudi Arabia ordered the Canadian ambassador to leave the country and recalled its own ambassador on Sunday after Global Affairs Canada sent a tweet expressing "grave concern" over the recent arrests of civil society and women's rights activists and calling for their "immediate release."

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry responded on Twitter saying "KSA through its history has not and will not accept any form of interfering in the internal affairs of the Kingdom." Saudi Arabia also announced Sunday it would be suspending all new trade and investment transactions with Canada.
