Syria Denies Militant’s Gas Attack Allegations That Aim to Curb Army’s Advance

Alwaght- Iran has rejected allegations about Syrian army's use of chemical weapon in Douma, describing such accusation as a conspiratorial move.

“The accusations that the Syrian army used chemical weapons in the eastern Damascus suburb of Douma is inconsistent with existing concrete facts,” asserted Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi.

“The Syrian government cooperated favorably with the United Nations regarding chemical weapons and the international community completely destroyed all chemical facilities of this country, after Syria joined the Chemical Weapons Convention” reiterated Qassemi.

The Sunday statement came following Western media outlets spirited attempts to blame the Syrian army on the reported chemical attack in Douma, an east of Damascus suburb.

“While the Syrian army is domineering in the war against terrorist groups, it seems illogical that they use chemical material or weapons,” added the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman.

“Such accusations levelled by US and some Westerners countries indicate that a new conspiracy is on the way against the Syrian people and government aimed at finding a pretext for a new military campaign against the country which would assuredly add to the complexity of the issues in the region and make the terrorists more brazen in committing their crimes; all which are against peace, security, and stability in the region and the world,” he underlined.

Iranian diplomat, however, went on to condemn gas attacks against civilians, saying “The Islamic Republic of Iran, based on its principled policy, religious teachings, and ethical standards, as a victim of chemical weapons, condemns the use these kinds of weapons by any side at anywhere in the world,” affirmed the Iranian diplomat.

Late on Saturday, the Syrian government denied the chemical attack accusations, saying they were aimed at halting pro-Damascus forces' advances in the region and were made by the terrorists themselves.

"The chemical fabrications, which did not serve the terrorists and their sponsors in Aleppo and Eastern Ghouta, will not serve them today either, as the Syrian state is determined to end terrorism in every square inch of Syrian territory," the government said in a statement.
