ALWAGHT- Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that imposing economic pressure and causing hardship to the Iranian people constitutes a crime against humanity.
In a post on his X account, Esmaeil Baghaei noted that Nancy Pelosi urged the US administration to “cripple” Iran’s economy so that ordinary Iranians—even those in rural areas—would “feel the pain.”
He criticized the deliberate targeting of civilians for political leverage, calling it the textbook definition of terrorism, and condemned the mindset that considers it acceptable to base policies on the suffering of people in another country.
Baghaei added that, legally, such actions provide clear evidence of a deliberate and systematic US policy to inflict pain and cruelty on populations it disfavors, stressing that this behavior constitutes a “crime against humanity.”
