Hamas Flags ‘Dangerous Precedent’ As Israel Increases Control Over al-Quds

ALWAGHT- Amid escalating demolitions and detentions in the West Bank, Hamas criticizes Israel’s expansion of al-Quds municipal boundaries beyond the Green Line.

Hamas has condemned Israel’s expansion of al-Quds municipal boundaries beyond the Green Line, calling it an “extremely dangerous development” and part of a broader effort to fully annex the city. The movement said the move coincides with demolition notices for over 40 homes in Anata and represents a systematic policy aimed at displacing Palestinians and emptying the city of its residents. Hamas warned that international silence could embolden further annexation, displacement, and demolition actions.

Alongside al-Quds, Israeli forces have issued additional demolition notices in towns across the West Bank, including Tuqu and Shuqba, while carrying out raids, vehicle confiscations, and mass detentions affecting 40 Palestinians, including women and recently released detainees. These measures, Hamas said, amount to an escalation in an “open war” on the Palestinian presence in the city and surrounding areas, prompting calls for Palestinian solidarity.

The escalation follows an Israeli cabinet decision to register large areas of the West Bank as “state property,” aimed at advancing settlement expansion in Area C. Palestinian authorities have denounced the move as de facto annexation, while Hamas described it as an attempt to impose settlement-based realities on the ground. The decision comes after other measures last week, including lifting restrictions on land sales to settlers and transferring municipal building authority to the Israeli civil administration.
