Syrian War Correspondent Killed in Harasta Anti-Terrorist Operation

Alwaght- Syrian Army war correspondent Walid Khalil was killed Wednesday while reporting on military operations against terrorist organizations in Harasta area in Damascus Countryside.

“Lieutenant-Colonel Walid Khalil was killed during performing his national and professional duties as an army officer and a military correspondent while covering the military operations launched against the terrorist groups in Harasta area,” the Political Administration of the Army and the Armed Forces said in a statement.

Khalil was born in Damascus in 1978. He studied journalism at Damascus University and graduated from it in 1997.

He joined the Army as a university officer in 2006 and worked at the Political Administration as a journalist and a military correspondent until the date of his death in Harasta.

Martyr Khalil covered the army’s operations against ISIS, al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations in Deir Ezzor, Aleppo, Homs, Quneitra and Damascus Countryside.

Syrian forces are engaged in intensive operations to wipe out remnants of terrorists in many parts of the country after a successful offensive to retake all territories previously occupied by ISIS terrorist group in the country. Syria has been gripped by a foreign-backed insurgency since 2011 which has led to the killing of hundreds of thousands of civilians and displacing of millions.
