ALWAGHT- The Israeli regime targeted a power station south of the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, intensifying its ongoing aggression against the country.
Residents of Sana’a reported powerful explosions near the Hazeem power station on Sunday, which local media attributed to an Israeli strike. Eyewitnesses cited by Reuters confirmed hearing loud blasts near the facility, while Yemen’s al-Masirah TV said several generators were knocked out of service. According to reports, the attack was carried out by Israeli naval missile boats.
Hazem al-Asad, a senior member of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, condemned Israel for deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure such as power and water facilities. The strike came only days after Yemen’s Armed Forces claimed responsibility for drone attacks on Israeli cities including Haifa, Negev, Eilat, and Be’er Sheva. Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the military spokesman, said those operations “successfully achieved their objectives” and were carried out in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The Yemeni military has vowed to continue launching strikes against Israel until the assault on Gaza ends and the blockade is fully lifted. Since October 2023, Yemeni forces have also imposed a maritime blockade while conducting drone and missile strikes in solidarity with Palestinians. The conflict has already claimed more than 61,800 Palestinian lives, most of them women and children, according to reports from Gaza.
