ALWAGHT- Upon arriving in Beirut on a regional tour following a two-day visit to Iraq, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) reaffirmed Iran’s steadfast support for Lebanon’s government and people in all circumstances.
Ali Larijani, Iran’s top security official, arrived in Beirut on Wednesday and was greeted warmly by Lebanese officials, including Foreign Minister Rodrigue Khoury, Iranian Ambassador Mojtaba Amani, and representatives of Hezbollah-allied political factions. Speaking to reporters, Larijani highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between Iran and Lebanon, emphasizing that Iran stands with the Lebanese people in all circumstances and seeks to support their interests.
During his visit, Larijani is scheduled to meet with key Lebanese leaders, including the prime minister, president, ministers, and parliament deputies, to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments. Iran’s ambassador described the trip as occurring at a critical moment in Lebanon’s history and said Larijani will communicate Iran’s positions during these meetings.
The visit coincides with growing tensions over the Lebanese government’s plan, backed by the US and Israel, to disarm Hezbollah—a move opposed by most Lebanese. Hezbollah has historically resisted Israeli military campaigns and has launched operations in support of Palestinians in Gaza. The visit has sparked strong support on Lebanese social media, with hashtags like #Iran_Is_Support_Not_Supervisor trending as a counter to claims portraying Hezbollah as dependent on Iran.
Larijani’s visit also comes amid ongoing Israeli violations of the November 27, 2024, ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, despite Israel’s commitment to withdraw from Lebanese territory. Since the ceasefire, Israel has reportedly breached the agreement over 3,700 times, raising concerns over Lebanon’s national stability and highlighting the continued tension along the southern border.
