Alwaght- The Kurdish Peshmerga forces say they have reached their set target in the ongoing Mosul liberation operation and will not advance further, the Rudaw news site reported on Tuesday.
A Kurdish commander said the forces have reached the point they were supposed to liberate and will not advance, as ordered by Iraqi Kurdistan Region president Masoud Barzani.
The forces have recently liberated the Bashiqa town north of Mosul and reports say their bulldozers are digging a Kurdish border around the town.
This is while beyond the trenches, the Iraqi army is advancing on Gogjali, or as it is also known, the Mosul Gate.
After both Tiz Kharabi Gawra and Tiz Kharabi Bchuk came under their control, the Peshmerga began drawing their borders.
“This is the last point, it is the border that President Barzani assigned for us. If we are commanded, we will advance further. But for the time being we are here,” a Peshmerga official, told Rudaw.
