Alwaght- Russia’s new-generation Su-35 fighter jets have been deployed at the Latakia base in Syria, ready to take off at a minute's notice.
According to the Russian Air Space Forces group spokesman in Syria, there will always be two Su-35 jets ready to take off in just 60 seconds at Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base in Latakia. The fighter jets will provide cover for Russian aircraft and increase their total field of view.
In the air, two Su-35s can provide a 360-degree field of view with coverage ranging to 400 kilometers, the spokesman said. He also mentioned that the Su-35 is a multirole fighter jet capable of providing air cover for the strike aircraft and strike surface targets as well as subsurface ones.
According to the Interfax News Agency, the aircraft belong to the first batch delivered in October-November last year “that were initially attached to the 23rd fighter aircraft regiment of the 303rd guard combined aviation division of the 11th Air Force and Air Defense Army.
The aircraft deployed to Syria following the usual route over the Caspian Sea, Iran and Iraq.
The 4++ generation Su-35 is characterized by supermaneuverability and can detect stealth planes like the F-35 at a distance of over 90 kilometers. Once engaged in a WVR (Within Visual Range) air-to-air engagement, it can freely maneuver to point the nose and weapons in any direction, to achieve the proper position for a kill.
The Russian Defense Ministry Su-35s were deployed to Syria and performed their first combat missions last week, TASS reports.
Russia has been carrying out airstrikes in an anti-terrorist operation in neighboring Syria since September 2015 at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad. The Russian warplanes have carried out successful airstrikes on ISIS and other terrorist groups in Syria.
