ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has condemned the United States’ latest economic sanctions against Iran, calling them “an assertion of extraterritorial sovereignty” over independent UN member states.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei condemned the latest US economic sanctions on Iran, arguing that they go beyond economic pressure on Tehran and amount to an assertion of extraterritorial authority over other independent UN member states.
Baghaei said secondary sanctions have no basis in international law and violate the principle of sovereign equality under the UN Charter. He argued that the US cannot lawfully pressure foreign banks, businesses, or airports to stop legitimate trade with Iran.
He further warned that combining such sanctions with what he described as a naval blockade and military aggression would undermine the sovereignty of other states. Baghaei said this could erode the UN-based international system and lead to a return to “full-scale classic colonialism.”
