ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will take part in the BRICS foreign ministers' gathering in India, a spokesman announced Wednesday, with bilateral discussions scheduled on the sidelines.
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's foreign ministry, informed India Today Global that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi intends to attend the upcoming BRICS foreign ministers' summit. The specific date of the gathering has not yet been released.
Baghaei pointed out that both Iran and India are members of BRICS as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and that the two countries maintain strong cooperation and coordination within both frameworks.
The spokesperson described the meeting as significant, stating that Tehran is eager to hold bilateral talks with other participating ministers—including India's foreign minister, whom Iran regards as a representative of a friendly nation. Iran became a member of BRICS in early 2024 and has since been working to expand its diplomatic and commercial ties through the group.
