ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US and the European troika of causing the collapse of the Cairo agreement between Tehran and the IAEA, placing full responsibility on Western governments.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in a post on X that the Cairo agreement—an understanding reached earlier this year with IAEA chief Rafael Grossi to restore limited inspections—has been “killed” by the United States and the European trio. He compared its collapse to the earlier derailment of diplomacy in June, which he blamed on Israel and the US.
Araghchi outlined a sequence of events he says led to the breakdown: Israel and the US allegedly attacked Iran just as a new round of nuclear talks was approaching; after Iran agreed in Cairo to resume IAEA inspections despite the attacks, the E3 pushed for UN sanctions under US pressure; and once Iran began granting inspectors access, the US and E3 moved to censure Tehran at the IAEA Board of Governors.
He argued that Iran is not seeking to create a new crisis and that its goodwill has gone unrecognized. According to Araghchi, the US and E3 knowingly provoked the situation, making the end of the Cairo agreement an inevitable result of their actions.
