ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has urged the international community to end Israel’s “chronic impunity,” citing a recent ICJ opinion that denounces the regime’s violations of international humanitarian law.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a legal opinion on October 22, stating that Israel, as an occupying power, must cooperate with UN agencies to facilitate humanitarian aid in Gaza and refrain from obstructing its delivery. The court emphasized that Israel has a duty to ensure the basic needs of Palestinians under its control and reaffirmed the prohibition on using starvation as a method of warfare.
In response, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the ICJ’s opinion once again exposes Israel as a major violator of international humanitarian law. He noted that the court’s findings highlight Israel’s continued defiance of international obligations and reaffirm its unlawful occupation of Palestinian territories, which must end immediately.
Baghaei further pointed out that both the ICJ and the International Criminal Court (ICC) have denounced Israel for committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Gaza. The conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in over 68,000 deaths—mostly women and children—and more than 170,000 injuries, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
