ALWAGHT- Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Iranian Vice President for Strategic Affairs, resigned from his position following a meeting with the Judiciary Chief.
In a post on his X account, former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirmed his resignation, citing mounting pressure, insults, and defamation targeting him and his family over the past six months as the reasons behind his decision.
Zarif described his tenure in President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration as “the bitterest period” of his 40-year career, despite his efforts to safeguard national interests.
He stated that after meeting with Iran’s Judiciary Chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, on Sunday, he accepted the recommendation to resign in order to ease pressure on the administration. Zarif also announced his intention to return to academia. Meanwhile, a group of lawmakers had been advocating for his removal, arguing that the position of vice president for strategic affairs was fundamentally unlawful.
