Alwaght- These days, along with occupation of Gaza, the Israelis have begun intensive efforts to destabilize the West Bank. Sowing division between the resistance groups and the Palestinian Authority (PA) on the one hand and deepening the gaps among the PA officials on the other hand are the most important faces of the Israeli activities in the West Bank. These activities serve several aims:
Annexing the West Bank through sowing internal division
Advancing settlement projects and gradually annexing Palestinian lands are the most important objectives of the Israeli project in the West Bank. The Greater Israel project, several times mentioned by the Israeli officials, indicates that the Israeli regime is seeking new developments and changes, taking advantage of weak international reactions to its abusive actions and inter-Palestinian gaps.
Also, highlighting "state of Gaza” is part of the policy of dividing the Palestinians geographically and politically, and its aim is to destroy the Palestinian national identity by deepening the separation between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. In fact, the division of Palestine remains the greatest obstacle to any real progress in securing Palestinian interests. This is while the strategy for saving Palestine must include strengthening national unity by ending the internal division of different groups, as unity increases legitimacy and shores up Palestine’s position in securing international interests. In fact, any solution to Palestine must begin with a unified Palestinian position and leadership that represent all Palestinian tendencies in order to beat the challenges.
Sidelining resistance groups
Furthermore, with the aim of weakening the resistance groups, the Israelis are trying isolate and push to the sidelines the resistance members in the West Bank, particularly in Jenin. This agenda is pursued at the hand of the PA. In other words, PA security apparatus acts as a proxy force to the Israeli regime against the pro-liberation resistance forces.
On Monday, the PA security forces opened fire on people protesting in the Jenin refugee camp against the attacks by the PA elements on the resistance brigades. The PA forces opened fire after calls were made for demonstrations in the West Bank, especially in Jenin, in support of the resistance and condemnation of the PA siege of the town.
Simultaneous with these attacks, Hamas, the Islamic Jihad Movement, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine jointly announced in a statement that the recent PA crackdown campaign in Jenin serves Israeli regime. These three movements underscored the need for the PA forces to withdraw from Jenin and to lift the blockade on the people.
The three movements called for the formation of a national committee covering all Palestinian groups to end crackdown on Jenin and prevent the spread of these incidents to other areas of the West Bank. Emphasizing the preservation of the blood of the Palestinian people, the resistance, and the weapons in the hands of the Palestinians, they stated that amid US-enabled massacare of Palestinians by Israel, the Palestinian people need a unified position to thwart the enemy's plots, and this is only feasible through the cessation of the PA's security coordination with the Israeli regime, opposition to the US plans, adoption of language of dialogue, and the implementation of national agreements and obligations.
Simultaneous Israeli push to isolate Palestine internationally
The Israeli occupiers have come to the notion that elimination of Palestine is not about geography and settlement. Rather, it includes elimination of Palestine from international arena and dialogue. Some experts in the Arab world have also predicted that the new year will witness Israeli efforts to weaken Palestinian political activism globally. This Israeli effort will be made simultaneously on two fronts:
Removing the Palestinian case from international priorities: This Israeli aim will be pursued by spreading tension from Gaza to Lebanon, Syria and other regions in order to distract international focus from Palestine.
Marginalizing Palestinian political activists in the 1948 occupied territories with the aim of marginalizing them politically and weakening them as an influential force: This goal will also be followed by marginalizing Arab MPs in the Knesset and institutions active in Israel.
Unity, the road to Palestinian salvation
The top priority of Palestine is a comprehensive project of unity of Palestinian people. This unity should include all Palestinian society segments, including Hamas and the Islamic Jihad under a common vision.
This urgency comes while the US administration is pressing for major changes in the PA body including leadership and key figures for the Palestinian body to align with the US vision resting on economic peace model. Now, Mohammad Dahlan, who has influence in the PA security apparatus, is the ideal figure for Americans and Israelis for overhaul of the PA. Dahlan played a key role in the 1993 peace talks with Israel, and in 1994, he returned to Gaza and was appointed head of the Palestinian Security Service, which served as the PA's police force. He resigned from this position in 2002 and is widely regarded as Israel's pawn. This means that the presence of such figures as Dahlan, whose subservience to Israel is proven to all, under the umbrella of Palestinian unity is unjustifiable.
