ALWAGHT- The Iranian Navy is set to conduct a joint military exercise with several members of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) in the coming days.
The main phase of the “IMEX 2024” joint naval exercise will be conducted by the southern fleet of the Iranian Navy in the coming days.
Naval forces from several IONS member countries and observers will participate in the exercise.
The aim of the drill is to bolster collective security in the region, foster multilateral cooperation, and demonstrate the commitment and capabilities to maintain peace, friendship, and maritime security.
Participants will also engage in tactics to ensure the safety of international maritime trade, protect sea routes, improve humanitarian efforts, and share information on rescue and relief operations.
The IONS is a voluntary initiative designed to enhance maritime cooperation among the navies of the Indian Ocean Region's coastal states by providing an open and inclusive platform for discussing regionally relevant maritime issues.
