During a meeting with his Turkish counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed Iran's readiness to strengthen cooperation with Turkey, particularly in enhancing regional security.
Pezeshkian highlighted his proposal for establishing a regional connectivity network, emphasizing that its success depends on ensuring security in the region. "For this initiative to be realized, the region must be free from terrorism," he noted.
He further stressed the importance of unity among regional countries to support development, proposing the creation of a large joint market along with academic, scientific, and economic exchanges as a way to showcase the Muslim world’s potential on the global stage.
Pezeshkian also emphasized that Islamic unity would help prevent Israeli aggression in Gaza.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the Israeli regime’s actions, describing them as a new form of barbarism and violence. He pointed to the ongoing massacre of Palestinians in Gaza over the past 11 months as evidence of Israel’s intention to escalate tensions in the region. Erdogan remarked that Israel would eventually be held accountable for its atrocities in international courts.
Erdogan also welcomed the idea of security cooperation between Turkey and Iran, adding that their collaboration in sectors such as energy would benefit both nations.
