ALWAGHT- Senior military commanders from Iran and Belarus discussed strategies to enhance cooperation between the two nations in response to common threats, such as US sanctions and NATO expansion.
During a visit to Tehran on Wednesday, Belarusian Air Force Commander Andrey Lukyanovich held separate meetings with Iran’s Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi and Air Force Commander Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh.
In one meeting, the Iranian Army chief noted that Tehran and Minsk face common threats and share mutual interests.
Condemning the US and Western sanctions against Iran and Belarus, General Mousavi stated that both nations oppose US unilateralism and NATO expansion.
He praised Belarus’ “strategic and special position” against NATO expansion and commended Minsk's fair and independent stance on the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh.
He also emphasized Iran’s commitment to strengthening military and defense cooperation with Belarus, citing Iran’s valuable experience in resisting world powers during the eight-year war in the 1980s and in combating terrorism.
The Iranian general emphasized the importance of exchanging experiences with Belarus, highlighting the valuable insights Belarus has gained, particularly from the Ukraine war.
The Belarusian general expressed his country’s eagerness to broaden and deepen military relations with Iran.
Lukyanovich reiterated Belarus' opposition to US unilateralism and NATO expansion. He also praised Iran’s air defense capabilities against hostile threats and extended an invitation to the Iranian Army chief to visit Belarus.
During Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s state visit to Iran in March 2023, the two countries signed a road map for comprehensive cooperation, along with several agreements in various fields.
