Iran Criticizes US Accusations of Weapons Supply to Yemen as an Attempt to Mask Aggression

ALWAGHT- Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, denounced US claims of Iranian arms supply to Yemen as a cover-up for Washington's aggressive actions against the Arab Peninsula nation.

Iravani conveyed these sentiments in a letter addressed to the UN Security Council on Thursday.

On Monday, Stephanie Sullivan, the US Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, reiterated accusations that Iran was supplying arms to Yemen’s Ansarullah movement.

Sullivan pointed out that Iran’s "own state-affiliated media has publicized the country’s provision of prohibited ballistic missile technology" to Ansarullah.

Iravani criticized the American diplomat for "straying from the agenda and once again misusing the Security Council platform to make baseless allegations against the Islamic Republic regarding the situation in Yemen."

"Iran views these allegations as part of the United States’ political agenda to justify and conceal its ongoing acts of aggression against Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity," he remarked.

The US, together with the United Kingdom, has been launching airstrikes on Yemen’s western provinces to prevent Sanaa from conducting operations supportive of Palestinians targeting Israeli ships or vessels heading to occupied Palestinian territories.

Iravani further cautioned that the US’s repetition of accusations against Iran was an attempt to coerce UN experts into compromising their independent mandate.

"This detrimental tactic by the US undermines the credibility of both the Security Council and the reports produced by UN experts, which should remain impartial and free from political influence," Iravani warned.
