ALWAGHT- Iranian President-Elect Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that expanding relations with Pakistan is an unwavering policy of Tehran. He pledged that his administration will collaborate with Islamabad on various issues and will implement existing bilateral agreements.
During a phone call with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, Iranian President-Elect Masoud Pezeshkian affirmed that strengthening relations with Pakistan is a consistent principle of Iran’s foreign policy, highlighting the special importance Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei places on closer ties with Pakistan.
Pezeshkian emphasized that the longstanding relationship between the two prominent Muslim nations is based on deep-rooted cultural, religious, and civilizational bonds.
He stressed the importance of leveraging untapped opportunities for mutual cooperation to benefit both countries and expressed his administration’s readiness to implement previously signed political, economic, and security agreements between Iran and Pakistan.
Sharif congratulated Pezeshkian on his electoral victory, noting that the smooth transition of power in Iran reflects its strong democratic foundations.
He also underscored the need to ensure the stability and security of the shared border, advocating for closer cooperation in combating terrorism.
Pezeshkian, a physician-turned-politician, secured victory in the Iranian presidential runoff election on July 5 with 53.66% of the votes.
His administration, the 14th since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, will serve a four-year term.
