Muhammad, Britain’s Most Popular Boys Name: Study

Muhammad, Britain’s Most Popular Boys Name: Study

Alwaght- The name of Islam’s prophet Muhammad is the UK’s most popular name for boys in the UK, a study has found.

Islam has long been described as the fastest growing religion in the world; however, its rise has also been marked with a rise in Islamophobia. Yet, parents continue to use the beloved name.

According to parenting website BabyCentre, the name of Islam’s holy Prophet was the most popular name for boys in 2021, meaning the beloved Muslim name has held the top spot for the fifth year in a row.

Sadly, British Muslims live in an era where Islamophobia is on the rise and simply having a ‘Muslim sounding name’ could inspire Islamophobic discrimination. Despite this, the name continues to grow more popular year after year.

BabyCentre said the name also tops the website's most popular boys' name of the entire decade. While other high ranking baby names for boys and girls in 2021 with Muslim connections include: Fatima, Ali and Layla. Further cementing the theory that Islam could become the most successful religion in the western world in the not to distant future.
