Apple Watch Worn by Saudi Journalist Transmitted Evidence of His Death: Turkish Media

Alwaght- The moments when dissent Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi was interrogated, tortured and murdered in Riyadh's consulate in Istanbul were recorded in his Apple Watch's memory, and the watch had synched with his iPhone, which his fiancée was carrying outside the consulate, Turkish media reported.

Khashoggi turned on the recording function of his Apple Watch before walking into the Saudi consulate on October 2, according to Sabah newspaper.

The moments of his "interrogation, torture and killing were audio recorded and sent to both his phone and to iCloud," the pro-government, privately owned newspaper paper reported. The Turkish newspaper said conversations of the men involved in the reported assassination were recorded.

Two senior Turkish officials previously told Reuters that Khashoggi had been wearing a black Apple watch when he entered the consulate and that it was connected to a mobile phone he left outside.

Website of another pro-government newspaper Yeni Safak also cited reliable sources in Turkey's special intelligence department as saying that "Saudi intelligence agents had realised after he [Khashoggi] died that the phone was recording and they used his finger print to unlock it, deleting some files, but not all of them. The recordings were subsequently found on his phone."

Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2 to get documents for his forthcoming marriage. Saudi officials say he left shortly afterwards but Turkish officials and his fiancée, who was waiting outside, said he never came out.

Turkish sources have told Reuters the initial assessment of the police was that Khashoggi, an outspoken critic of the Saudi regime, had been deliberately killed inside the consulate. Riyadh has dismissed the claims.
