Alwaght- Over 30,000 Palestinian worshipers performed Friday prayers at al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied al-Quds (Jerusalem), despite tough measures imposed by the Israeli regime to deny them access to the holy site.
Witnesses say the Israeli regime intensified the presence of its forces at road barriers outside the Aqsa Mosque’s gates, where Palestinian citizens underwent humiliating ID check and physical search.
During his sermon, Sheikh Ismail Nawahdeh condemned the recent US decision that recognized al-Quds as Israel’s capital and hailed the protests that took place in different countries to denounce such step.
Nawahdeh urged Arab regimes to adopt positions consistent with the wishes of their peoples who reacted angrily to the US step and supported al-Quds as the eternal capital of Palestine.
Following the Friday prayer, thousands of worshipers rallied outside the silver-domed Mosque, chanting slogans condemning the US decision over al-Quds and supporting the Palestinian people’s right to the holy city and al-Aqsa Mosque.
Meanwhile, scores of Palestinians marched in the afternoon from Qalandia refugee camp in al-Quds to the military checkpoint north of the city, to protest the US step.
Local sources reported that Israeli soldiers at the checkpoint attacked the participants in the march with volleys of stun and tear gas grenades. Many of them suffered breathing problems as a result of inhaling tear gas, they added.
