Saudi Mecca Imam Censured for Pro-Trump Remarks

Abdulrahman al-Sudais

The imam of the Grand Mosque of Mecca is under fire for claiming that US President Donald Trump is "steering the world to peace".

Alwaght- Speaking during a visit to New York, Abdulrahman al-Sudais, Saudi royal court appointee, has sparked an outcry for his bizarre remarks in praise of the US president who has gained infamy across the world for his war mongering outbursts.

Al-Sudais said in a TV interview with Al Ekhbariya TV channel that Saudi Arabia and the US are the "poles of influence in the world".

They are "steering the world and humanity to the ports of security, peace and prosperity," he claimed,  suggesting that the two countries should unite to "combat terrorism" and to "realize security and international peace".

The conference, on 'Civilizational communication between the US and the Islamic World', was held by the Muslim World League over two days and attracted representatives of mostly Saudi-backed Wahhabi institutions globally.

Sudais' comments attracted criticism, with the hashtag #Sudais Declaration Does Not Represent Me circulating in Arabic. Many users criticized Sudais' remarks and his praising of the US.

One User twitted, US is leading the world to peace. "Where? Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Somalia or Syria, can anyone tell me?
