No Syrian Truce Unless US Accepts Responsibility for Proxy Forces: US Analyst

Jim W. Dean, the managing editor of Veterans Today

The US should accept responsibility for its proxy forces in Syria, before any ceasefire agreement is finalized

Alwaght- The US should accept responsibility for its proxy forces in Syria, before any ceasefire agreement is finalized, a US journalist told Iranian PressTV.

Referring to the US pressure on Russia to hold Damascus committed to the ceasefire, Jim W. Dean, the managing editor of Veterans Today, said "So, we have this unbelievable situation where at least Russia finally stood up and said 'unless you can guarantee ahead of time that your groups are going to sign up, there's really no way we can start another ceasefire. Because we know you're just going to use it to reinforce your own forces”.

“But the US never accepted any responsibility for its own proxy forces," he added.

Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov conditioned any revival of the Syrian truce to contribution of all parties including the US to such agreement.

The analyst also pointed out that the US is unwilling to rein in its proxy forces like Jabhat Fateh al-Sham to maintain its military advantage.

"That is the US will not even agree to have this new al-Nusra group deemed as a terrorist organization which on one hand it says it is but it won't have it deemed that way. Because that requires legal responsibilities and then also lets Russia free to bomb them," he said.

In another part of the interview he referred to the insistence by the US to keep the recent truce agreement confidential and called it a struggle by the Washington to avoid possible penalties in case on violating any term of the agreement.
