Alwaght – A flotilla known as Women’s Boat to Gaza (WBG) will leave Barcelona Port in Spain on her journey to reach the coasts of the besieged Gaza Strip.
The Amal-Hope and Zaytouna-Oliva vessels are scheduled to go to the Ajaccio in France before they continue their way to anchor at Gaza shore in October.
Israeli regime has put the Palestinian Gaza strip under a complete blockade since 2007 preventing any humanitarian cargo to reach the region from land, air, or sea.
The flotilla staffs are women from 15 countries including Malin Björk, a Member of European Parliament from Sweden, Israeli activist Zohar Chamberlain Regev and retired US. Army Colonel Ann Wright.
The flotilla “seeks not only to challenge the Israeli blockade but to also show solidarity and bring a message of hope to the Palestinian people,” the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which organized the move, said on its website.
Chamberlain Regev, who chairs the WBG’s steering committee, said the activists taking part in the journey “find the blockade of Gaza and the occupation of Palestine absolutely unacceptable.”
According to the UN, Gaza will be uninhabitable by 2020, said Canadian social worker, Wendy Goldsmith, adding that the WBG “declares that the illegal blockade of Gaza must end, so that every person can live with freedom and dignity.”
The similarly humanitarian ship, Mavi Marmara left Turkey in 2010 as a part of a six-ship flotilla to deliver humanitarian aids to Gaza shore but Tel Aviv commandos raided the ship and killed nine Turks on the board.
