Iran Tests New Drone in Military Drills

Alwaght- Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has tested a high-potential indigenous drone in ongoing military drills in the south eastern part of the country.

The drone dubbed Hamasseh (Epic) was deployed as part of military maneuvers for the first time since being unveiled two years ago. The drone is capable of carrying out surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike missions simultaneously and can do long flights at high altitude.

It was being flown together with the IRGC’s Mohajer (Migrant), Ababil, Shahed (Observer) drones.

The military drills, codenamed The Great Prophet (PBUH), started out in Sistan-and-Baluchestan Province on Tuesday. The area covered by the drills was being monitored by 10 reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles.

Commander of the IRGC’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour had said on Sunday that the three-day drills would also cover the provinces of Kerman, South Khorasan, and Hormozgan from April 12 through April 14. Local forces are also involved in the military manouvers.

The war game also includes the newly-founded Ground Force Airborne Unit, the commander noted, adding that no new weapon is going to be tested in the drill.

Lying in a deserted region, the province of Sistan and Balouchestan borders Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Since a couple of years ago, the IRGC has employed a strategy of utilizing local forces to ensure regional security in the face of narcotics trafficking or the entry of terrorists and other criminals.
