ALWAGHT- The Iranian ambassador to Baghdad stated that Iran has received assurances that the territory of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq will never be used to threaten the Islamic Republic.
Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadeq praised the positive outcomes of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's recent visit to Iraq.
The ambassador emphasized the significance of the president's trip to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, noting that officials from both sides discussed the full implementation of a security agreement between Iran and Iraq.
He stated that the authorities in Baghdad and Erbil have assured that the territory of the Kurdistan Region will not be used to threaten Iran.
Al-e Sadeq also mentioned discussions on resolving issues related to economic projects and the export of Iranian engineering and technical services to the Kurdistan Region.
Additionally, KRG officials pledged to cooperate with Tehran regarding the release or extradition of Iranian prisoners in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
President Pezeshkian’s visit to Iraq marked his first official foreign trip since taking office. During his stay, he held talks with Iraq’s president and prime minister in Baghdad, resulting in the signing of 14 cooperation agreements with the neighboring country.
The Iranian president highlighted regional development cooperation as a key principle of his administration's foreign policy.
