Alwaght- Foreign Ministry of Iran has summoned the Danish envoy to Tehran to express “rash and politicized” remarks by Denmark's officials about thwarting an assassination plot by Iranian intelligence in the European country.
The head of the office of Nordic affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry met ambassador Danny Annan in early Wednesday to convey Iran’s “strong” message about the allegations that his country’s security forces arrested a Norwegian of Iranian roots for his alleged involvement in a plot to assassinate an Iranian Arab opposition leader, according to Bahram Qassemi, the Foreign Ministry's spokesperson.
Denmark did not identify the suspect.
Qassemi told the media that during the meeting, the Iranian diplomat categorically rejected reports of the existence of such plot, adding such reports were in line with schemes by those against the good Iran-Europe relationship at the current sensitive time.
On Tuesday, Danish intelligence chief Finn Borch Anderson announced that his service foiled a plan designed by Tehran to kill the leader of Arab Struggle Movement for Liberation of Ahvaz, a Western-shielded terrorist group that so far carried out several bombing attacks on the civilians in the south of the country, killing dozens.
Following the report, Denmark rushed to recall ambassador from Tehran and asked the fellow European states to impose sanctions on Tehran.
The pressure campaign against the Islamic Republic comes as the US intends to impose the second wave of sanctions on Tehran. The first wave came when the American President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal signed between Iran and six world powers.
