ALWAGHT- Ghalibaf honored the legacy of martyred Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in Baghdad, while discussing plans for talks with senior Iraqi officials.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Baghdad and paid tribute to Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis at the site where they were killed in a 2020 US drone strike. He praised their role in fighting ISIS and highlighted Iran’s resistance capabilities.
Ghalibaf said his visit reflects a new regional approach centered on cooperation among neighboring countries without foreign interference. He emphasized the deep-rooted ties between Iran and Iraq, describing their relationship as based on shared history, brotherhood, and a common destiny.
During the visit, Ghalibaf is expected to meet senior Iraqi officials and politicians and participate in commemorations. He said Tehran and Baghdad would pursue practical steps toward strengthening self-reliant and shared security.
The visit comes amid changes in Iraq’s security landscape, including preparations for the withdrawal of remaining US forces. Tehran and Baghdad view their growing partnership as a means of strengthening regional independence and countering foreign intervention and instability.
