ALWAGHT- On Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland, the deputy foreign ministers of Iran, the three major European powers, and the EU’s foreign policy deputy chairwoman held their scheduled meeting.
Deputy foreign ministers from Iran and the European Troika— the UK, Germany, and France—held their previously announced talks in Geneva on Tuesday. The Iranian delegation was led by Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi, focusing on Europe’s potential activation of the JCPOA “trigger mechanism” and issues surrounding the extension of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorses the 2015 nuclear deal.
The talks concluded without an official statement, though Gharibabadi noted on X that both sides exchanged views on Resolution 2231. He emphasized Iran’s continued commitment to diplomacy and pursuing a mutually beneficial solution, urging the European powers and the UNSC to allow space for dialogue.
This marked the second round of deputy-level meetings, following the first held in Istanbul on July 25. The discussions reflect ongoing efforts to address disputes over the nuclear deal and maintain diplomatic engagement between Iran and the European Troika.
