Alwaght- A senior leader of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has described Israel regime’s blockade on Gaza as "the policy of murderous terrorists”.
Deputy head of Hamas's political bureau, Ismail Haniyah, has added that the murderous Israeli regime has no place in the free world and the future of humanity, and on the land of Palestine.
Delivering a Friday prayers sermon at Gaza Port Mosque, Haniyya stressed the importance of establishing a seaport in the Gaza Strip to break the blockade imposed on its population for about 10 years.
"The building of a seaport in Gaza is the hope of the Palestinian people to break the siege, and we renew our adherence to this right and demand," Haniyyah said. He also hailed all the efforts made by countries and international groups to realize this Palestinian demand and break the siege on Gaza. "We hope that Gaza can have a seaport and water corridor enabling it to be in touch with the outside world," the Hamas official said. He also expressed his strong belief that the blockade on Gaza had failed to achieve its goals and undermine the Palestinian people's morale and their faith in the justice of their national rights and constants.
The Gaza Strip has been under an Israeli siege since June 2007. The Egyptian-backed blockade has caused a decline in the standards of living as well as unprecedented levels of unemployment and unrelenting poverty.
The Israeli regime has also waged three brutal wars on Gaza since 2008, including the 2014 offensive which left more than 2,200 Palestinians killed and over 11,100 others injured.
The United Nations has warned warning that the besieged Gaza Strip could become uninhabitable for its residents by 2020.
According to the United Nations relief agency responsible for the welfare of Palestine refugees UNRWA, three Israeli wars on the region and Tel Aviv’s continued blockade are among the factors which have been exacerbating the situation in Gaza. The report said that the Israeli regime’s siege has left no time for meaningful reconstruction or economic recovery of the strip. It added that high population density is also causing social, health and security-related ramifications for the enclave.
