ALWAGHT- In a firm show of solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Maldives Parliament has passed legislation—ratified by President Mohamed Muizzu—banning Israeli citizens from entering the country.
President Mohamed Muizzu announced that the Maldives has officially banned the entry of Israeli citizens, describing it as a firm response to what he called ongoing atrocities and acts of genocide committed by Israel against Palestinians. The legislation was swiftly ratified after being approved by the Maldives Parliament, with Muizzu stating that the move reflects the country's strong solidarity with the Palestinian people.
According to the president’s office, the government will continue advocating for accountability for violations of international law and maintain a strong voice against Israel’s actions on global platforms. Muizzu has repeatedly emphasized the Maldives’ longstanding support for a free and sovereign Palestinian state in line with UN resolutions and international law.
The ban, which takes effect immediately, follows growing pressure from both government supporters and opposition groups amid the Gaza war. While the Maldives has had no diplomatic ties with Israel since the 1970s, Israeli tourists were previously allowed entry. Around 11,000 Israelis visited the country last year, but travel warnings were issued by Israel in December due to increasing anti-Israel sentiment.
