Alwaght- Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has issued a decree calling on the country’s Defense Ministry to expedite efforts for boosting the country’s missile power amid US plans for imposing fresh sanctions on Tehran over the issue.
In the decree he issued on Thursday, Iran’s President hit out at the hostile policies by the U.S and its illegitimate and illegal intervention in Iran’s right to boost its defense capabilities.
President Rouhani noted that the US apparently intends to add new individuals and institutions in its former list of unjust sanctions adding that it is necessary that in the framework of approved defense policies, production of missiles should be accelerated in to meet the needs of the country’s armed forces.
The Iranian president pointed out that, “In view of erroneous and interventionist actions the U.S, Iran’s Ministry of Defense should use all its facilities and develop a new plan to expand country’s missile capabilities.”
He emphasized that Islamic Republic of Iran’s defense capabilities have been the factor of stability and security in the region and it is not only no threat to others, but also merely for defending its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity in combat against the scourge of terrorism and extremism and in line with regional and global common interests.
President Rouhani also reiterated that the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has announced during the nuclear negotiations that it will never negotiate with anyone regarding its legitimate defense power including its missile program and has stressed its legitimate right to defence, not accepting any limitation in this regard.
He further made it clear that Iran’s missile program is by no means a part of the nuclear accord known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) adding that American officials acknowledge this matter. JCPOA is an agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 – the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany – in the Austrian capital Vienna on July 14.
President Rouhani once again reiterated that nuclear weapons have no place in Iran’s defence doctrine, and therefore, development and production of ballistic missiles, which has never designed to carry nuclear warheads, will continue with power and strength as an important and standard tool for the defense of the country.
President Rouhani’s decree came a day after a report by The Wall Street Journal that Washington is preparing sanctions against firms and individuals in Iran, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates over alleged links to Iran’s ballistic missile program.
The planned new sanctions come as the US is obligated under a recent nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), to lift the sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, also warned the US against imposing any fresh sanctions on Iran over the country’s ballistic missile program, saying Tehran will respond to such meddlesome measures.
