Israeli Regime Targeted Syria’s Key Port, Latakia

Israeli Regime Targeted Syria’s Key Port, Latakia

Alwaght- The Israeli regime, in yet another act of aggression against Syrian nation, targeted on Tuesday the Arab country's principal port city of Latakia with airstrikes, prompting Damascus to launch defensive action.

The attacks saw the regime's warplanes release a number of missiles from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea towards the northwestern Syrian port, the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported. Citing a military source, SANA specified the exact timeline of the attacks as 01:23 a.m. local time on Tuesday (11:23 p.m. GMT on Monday).

The aerial assaults did not leave any human losses, but caused fire to a number of containers in the commercial hub.

According to the report, a number of explosions rang out throughout the city after the regime launched the offensives.

"Syria's air defense systems confronted enemy targets," it added.

Latakia is Syria's fifth largest city, but the port that it contains is the Arab country's biggest littoral lifeline.

Syria and the Israeli regime are technically at war, due to the latter's 1967-present occupation of the Arab country's Golan Heights.

Tel Aviv significantly scaled up its incursions against Syria in 2011, when the country found itself in the grip of rampant foreign-backed militant and terrorist violence.

The attacks have regularly targeted the defensive units and equipment that belong to the Syrian military and its allies.
