Drone Strike Targets Positions of Iraqi Popular Forces in Syria

Drone Strike Targets Positions of Iraqi Popular Forces in Syria

Alwaght- Positions of Iraqi resistance groups were hit by drones in Syria’s border city of al-Bukamal on Saturday.

Citing an informed security source, Al Jazeera TV channel reported the attack. Iraqi officials and the anti-terror Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) have not yet commented on the report.

The border between Bukamal and the Iraqi town of al-Qa’im is the only major crossing between Iraq and Syria that is run by the governments of the two neighboring countries.

Two other crossings of Rabia and al-Waleed do not have the capacity for commercial use due to the presence of Kurdish militants and US occupation forces, respectively.

The Bukamal crossing was liberated by the resistance front from the grip of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group four years ago, and since then American fighter jets have conducted deadly aerial assaults on the area.

Israel also carries out air raids on positions inside Syria in flagrant violation of the UN Charter, international law, and Security Council resolutions that urge respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Tel Aviv regime mostly keeps quiet about the attacks, which many view as knee-jerk reaction to the Damascus government’s increasing success in its counter-terrorism battle.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-sponsored militancy since March 2011, with the US and its allies, including Israel, aiding terrorist groups.

However, Syrian government forces, backed by Iran and Russia, have managed to win back control of almost all regions from Takfiri militants.
