Methodology of Takfiri Groups: Dimensions, Implications

Alwaght- The idea of Caliphate is one of the most fundamental issues which have haunted the mind of Sunni Muslims over the last 100 years. In this regard, dozens of political groups were created and the Islamic scholars wrote hundreds of books, claiming the Islamic caliphate has already declined the western culture has dominated the Islamic world.

Meanwhile, a large number of Sunni intellectuals, who were concerned about the religion, pushed for a return to the practices of the Salafs (Predecessors) as the main solution and called themselves Salafists.

The Salafi call was first echoed in Egypt. Sayyed Jamaleddin Asadabadi, Muhammad Abdeh, Abdurrahman Kevakibi, Muhibb Al-Din Al-Khatib and Sayyed Muhammad Rashid Rida (Reza) were among the first ones who urged a return to the religious practices of the Salaf. But, Wahhabis exploited the Salafi ideology. Depicting themselves as Salafi, Wahhabis promoted Ibn Taymiyya's interpretation of Islam. In this way, some desperate Muslims were trapped in Ibn Taymiyya's tales and promoted Takfir and violence based upon his ideas. For the time being, the Salafist movement is known to be one of the most important causes of crises effected Islamic World. In recent years the world have recognized the pandemic risks of this ideology as a new wave of Salafism began in 2006 due to the emergence of al-Nusra Front and ISIS. These groups think of Syrian and Iraqi Shiites as their main adversaries. Once, Abu Baker al-Baghdadi the leader of the terrorist group of ISIS declared in a statement “Since Shiite heretics and infidels have been collaborating with US infidels to kill the Muslims and tried to institutionalize the ignorance culture, the most attacks should be aimed at Iraqi Shiite government so that neither the US manages to reach its goal nor Shiites get a foothold in Iraq”.

Not only this kind of Salafism helps to humiliate Islam but it hurts the interests of Muslims and presents Islam as a violent and irrational religion. So, it is essential to understand the ideological roots and the principals of political behavior of Salafis in order to defeat them.

Evidence shows that the rapid advance of ISIS in Iraq would have never happened if it was not due to the financial, military and logistical contributions of Naghshbandieh , the Mujahideen Army , the Islamic Army in Iraq (IAI), Ba'ath Party,  al-Nusra Front, Islamic liberation front, Sipah-e-Sahaba, and Al-Qaeda.

The nationality and identity of the ISIS members killed or captured prove that there is a close ideological and operational relation among them.

These groups recognize none of Syrian or Iraqi political entities. They have always sought to establish their own Islamic emirate in the region. In the international arena, The US and its western allies in line with their own objectives endeavor to play with them. In this way, they manage to present a false image of Islam through propaganda and introduce it as a religion of terror. The horrible massacres in Syria alongside with propaganda war waged by Al Arabiya and Al Jazeera, the two Persian Gulf-based news channels, reveal a part of this controlled predetermined scenario.

Based upon the facts, one can think of Salafi-Takfiri terrorist acts of ISIS as the biggest challenge that the Islamic world faces. This is an undercover game which is controlled by the US to show the western desired image of Islam to the world. Meanwhile, The US manages to fan the flames of violence, dissention and patricide toward Islamic communities.

The aggressive and violent behavior of these interrelated groups of terror and the hard efforts made by the enemies of Islam to show Muslims as extremists not only urge Muslims to preserve and strengthen the sense of unity in the world of Islam but also put a twofold pressure on them to know the different schools of thoughts of ISIS.

The abovementioned goal would not be achieved unless they understand ISIS doctrinal deviation and make them known. Meanwhile, more effort is needed to promote genuine Islamic faith and doctrine.
