Alwaght- Iraqi forces have managed to liberate another district in Mosul's Old City from ISIS terrorists, head of Iraqi Federal Police said.
"The forces have fully liberated the Bab al-Saray district and raised the Iraqi flag above its buildings. The forces have liberated the al-Abyad mosque,” Raed Shaker Jawdad told reporters on Monday.
On Thursday Iraqi forces recaptured iconic Al Nuri Grand Mosque in Mosul, from where ISIS ringleader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared his caliphate in 2014.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi described the historic victory as an end to the terrorist organization’s existence.
Iraqis are preparing to celebrate an expected victory over the terrorist group in Iraq's second largest city, as battles rage on in the last few districts where the terrorists are dug in.
Authorities are planning a week of nationwide celebrations, according to a government statement, and Prime Minister is expected to visit Mosul to formally declare victory.
